The motion constraints - test-run a Digital Prototype of your machine before you build it Are you having trouble explaining to others how your new mechanism works? For that matter, are you fairly sure it is even going to work? Inventor's motion constraints can be a big help. In this course, you will learn how to apply assembly constraints that will allow you to replicate the motion of gears, pulleys, irregular cams, and rack-and-pinion mechanisms. This will include such topics as analyzing mechanism motions during the design phase to ensure proper operation, to check for interference within moving mechanisms, and to drive adaptive components. We will cover several tips, tricks, and cheats that can take motion constraints far beyond the usual textbook coverage. You will also learn how to capture assembly motions to an .AVI file so non-Inventor users can view them with the generic Windows Media Player. |

Derived parts - the easy way to build LH and RH variants, as-cast vs machined, mold cavities, etc Derived parts are a powerful but easy-to -use Inventor tool. They come in two basic flavors; you can derive a part from another one, or you can derive a part from an assembly. Using derived parts, you can easily create machining models and drawings from an as-cast model, and you can create a mold from the same model. The mold cavity can be scaled to allow for shrinkage. Opposite-hand versions can also be created from the basic part, and from any subsequent derived parts. If the basic part is changed then everything updates. |

iPart Factories - a single part file plus a spreadsheet can build an entire family of similar parts Inventor, especially Release 10 later and the Professional variants, includes a huge library of stock components such as gears, bearings, threaded fasteners, and so on. Even so, it is not possible for it to include your stock parts as it comes out of the box. Most companies have a series of component parts that are unique to their product line, but are used in various sizes and configurations depending on the particular model or variant being built. A simple example might be a basic shaft that is made in a variety of user-specified lengths. This presentation will show you how easy it is to set up an iPart factory. Now your designers will be able to quickly and easily pick a type of component from your library, and then specify details such as size, capacity, and so on. The iPart factory will then generate the specific part. iParts can include iMates, so the iPart components automatically attach themselves properly as they are inserted into an assembly. |

Annotative Scaling This workshop was part of the power track at Autodesk University last year. It will thoroughly review annotative objects in all contexts, with an emphasis on integrating them into an office standard. We'll look at each type of annotative object -- text, blocks, dimensions, hatch patterns, mleaders - and you'll get advice on how to avoid problems with annotation and dynamic blocks, moving dimensions between layouts and model space, and sharing drawings with users of earlier releases. If we have time, the workshop will conclude with tips on manipulating annotative objects through AutoLISP programming. Objects that Can be Annotative Annotation Scales and Dynamic Blocks Managing Annotation with Status Bar Avoiding Pitfalls Size, Position, and Visibility Adding Scales Updating Existing Drawings Saving to Earlier Releases |

The Design Accelerator - an introduction to performance-driven designing The Inventor Content Center comes with a huge collection of stock components such as bearings, bolts, bushings, and so on, that can greatly speed up the design process. The question is: "Do you still need to calculate the sizes of components you need?" The answer is "No!" With the Design Accelerator, the design process now becomes performance driven. You no longer need your engineering handbook to find the correct formula, then calculate the required sizes, then model the parts and assemble them. Instead, you now simply enter the performance specifications and the Design Accelerator does the rest. For example, you can design a V-belt drive simply by entering the input power and speed, the ratio, the loading factor, and the center-to-center distance. The Design Accelerator automatically calculates the sheave sizes and belt quantity. It then selects the commercial stock sizes and lengths that come closest to meeting your specifications and adjusts the center distance accordingly before inserting the models directly into your assembly. Of course, if you change anything then everything updates. We've come a long way from computer-aided drafting! The Design Accelerator is such a large topic that this course will only have time to touch on three out of its fifteen major and dozens of sub-capabilities, but it will give you a general idea of what is available and how it works. |

Presentation files - create exploded views, animations, AVIs to show assembly sequences Okay, so your Inventor assembly functions properly. Now all you need to do is to teach Production how to put it together. This sounds like a job for Inventor's "presentation" capabilities. Presentations allow you to quickly and easily produce exploded views complete with explosion trails for the components. These exploded views can then be incorporated into 2D drafting views. In addition, you will learn how easy it is to animate exploded views so you can dynamically demonstrate the sequence required to assemble or disassemble a mechanism. You will also learn how to capture assembly sequences to an .AVI file so non-Inventor users can view them with the generic Windows Media Player. |

Creating welded designs without using a helmet Run out of nuts and bolts? Then maybe welding your components together may be the answer. You create a weldment to design and document an assembly that does not contain traditional fasteners. Emulating the real welding process, you can add pre-weld operations to prepare the components for welding, and post-weld machining operations for finishing and clean-up. Creating a weldment also enables you to analyze assemblies as a single unit. You can even use calculations to determine added mass, welding time and material costs. Since weldment assemblies differ from standard assemblies, documenting them requires tools and capabilities that may not be required by a typical drawing. Features such as preparations, machining, and welds must be properly represented and annotated to convey the design intent and manufacturing processes required. |
